SOWING SUSTAINABILITY: GROWING GREEN INNOVATIONS WITH BASC AND GGGI

On January 9, 2025, Alcom Carbon Markets Philippines, Inc., in collaboration with Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), highlighted their pioneering partnership under the Green Transition Investment Program, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, to advance sustainable agriculture and biochar innovation in the Philippines. The initiative focuses on integrating biochar technology into sustainable farming practices to improve soil health, enhance agricultural productivity, and reduce carbon footprints. A key milestone is BASC’s development of a comprehensive training module for operating pyrolysis machines, which aims to equip communities and stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to adopt the technology. Through pyrolysis, agricultural biomass waste is converted into biochar as a valuable soil enhancer while simultaneously generating renewable energy. By combining BASC’s expertise in curriculum development, GGGI’s leadership in green growth strategies, and Alcom’s technical knowledge in biochar production, the partnership promotes agricultural innovation, resource efficiency, climate resilience, and sustainable farming solutions while empowering Filipino farmers and strengthening collaborative efforts toward inclusive and scalable environmental sustainability.
