“EXPANDING THE WOMEN-LED CHEMICAL PESTICIDE-FREE INTEGRATED BACKYARD FARMING IN BULACAN” MARCH 14, 2025

CITY OF BALIUAG, BULACAN – As part of its ongoing extension project, the BASC project management team, in collaboration with the City Agriculture Office of LGU – City of Baliwag, Bulacan, distributed farm inputs to 20 women farmer beneficiaries on March 14, 2025. This initiative is under the DOST-PCAARRD-funded project, “Expanding The Women-Led Chemical Pesticide-Free Integrated Backyard Farming In Bulacan.”

Following its initial distribution in Bocaue, Bulacan last week, women farmer beneficiaries in Brgy. Calantipay, Baliwag City, Bulacan are the recipients of farm inputs earlier today. Each beneficiary received a starter kit consisting of six female and one male free-range chicken, along with half a sack of feeds to support their poultry production. This effort is a key component of the chemical pesticide-free integrated backyard gardens they will establish in their communities.

To further support their farming activities, an egg incubator and hatcher with a 500-egg capacity was also provided to the farmer leader as shared equipment for the group. The project applies a science and technology (S&T) intervention focused on naturally grown free-range chicken (FRC) production and management, promoting sustainable and chemical-free poultry farming.

This project aims to empower women by promoting a science and technology (S&T)-based integrated backyard farming system as a sustainable source of food and income for marginalized farm families. Through this initiative, women farmers can contribute to food security and economic resilience in their communities.
