GOAL 3: GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

As the lone Higher Agricultural Education Institution (HEI) in the province of Bulacan, Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) acknowledges its pivotal role in ensuring the general welfare of its stakeholders and the whole Bulacan community. This is also in accordance with the Republic Act No. 11036 also known as the Mental Health Act which stipulates, “Educational Institutions, such as schools, colleges, universities, and technical schools, shall develop policies and programs for students, educators, and other employees designed to: raise awareness on mental health issues, identified and provide support and services for individuals at risk, and facility access, including referral mechanisms of individual with mental health conditions to treatment and psychosocial support. All public and private educational institutions shall be required to have a complement of mental health professionals.” Thus, the university carries out several projects and programs to promote and advocate good health and well-being among its stakeholders, including staff, students, and members of the community. The goals of these projects and programs are to prevent and alleviate health issues, encourage healthy behaviors, and foster an environment that is inclusive and supportive of the holistic development of the university’s stakeholders.

The dedication of BASC to good health and well-being is also demonstrated by educating and equipping students, staff, and community members about self-care, mindfulness, and public health. Additionally, the university initiates and implements extensions and outreach activities, programs, and projects that improve the quality of life, health, and well-being of its beneficiaries. BASC has also established a welcoming campus community where recreational, lifestyle, and wellness facilities are shared with the community and other organizations. Bulacan Agricultural State College also believes that smoking in any form and engaging in all other vices is harmful to one’s health. Thus, the university is known to be an absolute smoke-free institution.

Ultimately, it provides services to students concerning mental health, psychological well-being, and sexual and reproductive health care, as well as ensures public health and holism.
