UPSCALING OF RICE-BASED INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM IN BULACAN FIELD DAY

     Field Day was held at the established model farm at Brgy. Donacion, Angat, Bulacan on June 23, 2023 to showcase the rice-based integrated farming system extended by Bulacan Agricultural State College extension project team to farmer beneficiaries in Angat and Bustos, Bulacan.


     This activity served as the culminating event of the DA-RFO III-funded extension project which was implemented by BASC entitled “Upscaling of Rice-Based Integrated Farming System in Bulacan”.


Dr. Irene M. Adion, Chief of Research Division of DA-RFO III together with Mrs. Wesceselma Lingat from DA-RFO III graced the occasion and were very glad to witness the different farm animals and vegetables being nurtured in the project site. Dr. Adion also explained the importance of integrated farming and gave advices on how they can sustain the project.


     Engr. Dennis Mercado, farmer cooperator in Angat joyfully showed to the Angat and Bustos farmer-participants the rewards of his effort in the adoption of the rice-based integrated farming technology extended by BASC to them.

     The project management team also organized a Peking Duck Cooking Contest among the farmers to test their creativity and cooking prowess in transforming their Pekin Duck into a delicious adobo and caldereta dish.


     Ms. Leonora Arceo and Ms. Herminigilda Libiran’s entry from team Bustos was hailed as the most delicious Pekin Duck Adobo while the dish of Ms. Judith Agustin and Mr. Aldwin Agustin of team Angat placed second. Meanwhile, under the Pekin Duck Caldereta category. Ms. Marilyn Rivera and Mr. Albert Rivera of team Angat took the first place while Ms. Sally San Diego and Ms. Annalyn Salas of team Bustos placed second.


     Vegetable Seeds Identification Contest was also conducted to test the knowledge and skills of farmers in identifying the different vegetable seeds presented to them.

     Engr. Dennis Mercado of Angat won first prize for correctly identifying the majority of the seeds, with Mr. Pamfilo M. Dela Cruz of Bustos coming in second.


     Winners in these contests were awarded with cash prizes and assorted seeds during the closing program.
